Normalization of EU relations with Putin is impossible

The European Union will not be able to resume normal relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin after he launched a full-scale invasion to Ukraine.

This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in interview Ukrainian TV presenter Natalya Moseychuk.

So she answered the question whether the EU is afraid of Russia and whether they are trying to “save face” for the Russian president.

“Putin is the man on whose conscience this terrible criminal war is. He is a criminal and, as a criminal, he must pay the price he made us pay. Pay for the damage he caused,” said Ursula von der Leyen.

The head of the European Commission recalled that they had already introduced six packages of sanctions that seriously undermine the Russian economy.

“Deeper and deeper – the longer they drag on. Therefore, it is impossible for us to return to normal relations with Putin,” she stressed.

As UNIAN reported, in early June, the European Union finally approved sixth package of sanctions against Russiaincluding the oil embargo and the disconnection of Sberbank from SWIFT.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that French President Emmanuel Macron proposed him to make territorial concessions for the sake of “saving face to Putin.”
