Today 25 november Rai dedicates its first evening to the drama “Nome di donna” directed by Marco Tullio Giordana on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. There plot focuses on the story of Nina Martini, a young woman who moves from Milan to a small town in Lombardy. Here he finds work in a luxurious senior residence. Unfortunately, all that glitters is not gold. Soon the girl will find herself having to endure and face the advances of the director of the residence. The latter not only bothers her, but also the attendants and nurses who work in the facility. These, in order not to be fired, continue to silence the harassment.
Although Nina also needs to work, she does not give up the chance to rebel. The girl not only rejects the director’s advances, but also clashes with his power plays. He becomes the voice of truth and with the help of an association and the lawyer Tina Della Rovere, he brings forward a trial against him. The struggle of Nina, therefore, is tinged with pink and also opposes the silence of her colleagues.
A film that aims to deal with sensitive topics such as abuse and harassment, but that sends a message of hope: to fight against one’s tormentors to obtain a due freedom, which should be right from birth and which, unfortunately, due to the corruption of the human soul has not yet been achieved.
A story of revenge, that of Nina who rebels against a patriarchal and power system. He frees himself from the chains of fear and encourages with his courageous gestures to do the same.
In the cast, in addition to Cristiana Capotondi che is the protagonist, also: Valerio Binasco in the role of director, Adriana Asti who plays an old woman of the residence, Bebo Storti who plays the role of a squalid businessman priest. And then Michela Cescon who is Nina’s lawyer, Tina della Rovere.
Three curiosities about the film “Nome di donna”
- The film is inspired by a “true” story about harassment of some women that the journalist and screenwriter of the film Christian Mainardi presented to Marco Tullio Giordana about three years ago, before the Weinstein case broke out.
- The film was released in theaters on March 8, 2018, on the day of International Women’s Day and was distributed in Italian cinemas by Videa.
- The film was born close to the #MeToo movement, with which all women were invited to report the abuses suffered during their lives. Especially those that occurred in contexts and work environments, places that should be safe for everyone regardless of a person’s gender.
