Nokia advertises ‘sustainable’ subscription presumably for leasing phones – Tablets and phones – News

It’s going a bit offtopic but come on, one more time

Of course there is always an exception somewhere, but I don’t know if this is really as good a deal as it seems. I don’t doubt your calculation is correct, but the calculation doesn’t show the whole picture.

Let’s start with the basics. Do you really need a $999 phone? $750 is a lot cheaper than $999 but it’s still $450 more than I paid for my phone and it’s been around for 3 years. The latest games may not run very well, but I don’t play them anyway. Everything else goes completely smoothly.

I pay €100 per year for the hardware, you pay €375 per year.
If you use the phone for more than 2 years, it will be less, but the phone can also fall into the ditch tomorrow and you will have to buy a new one. It will take you 5 to 10 years with your phone to get to $100 a year and that’s not going to save your battery and probably not the screen either.

I’m sure your phone is better, but mine is good enough to do whatever I want. Maybe not the latest games, but I don’t play them anyway.

Then the subscription, which is slightly larger than you actually need. That doesn’t surprise me, that’s what they aim for when drawing up such a subscription. Hopefully in two years you’ll remember to cancel in time because if you’re 3 months late, your cheap deal probably won’t be much left.

As I see it, you have been convinced to take out a subscription that is too large for an (too) expensive phone. You may have gotten a lot of bang for your buck, but bottom line you spent more money than was necessary to solve your “problem”.

Maybe you will be using that phone for a long time or that your requirements are much higher than mine, but if we look purely at money, you have already spent a considerable amount of money. In the future it will never be less, but maybe more (eg for a new battery).

The seller who had the goal of selling an expensive phone now has succeeded. In three years, that seller will be working somewhere else and it won’t be his concern whether or not you buy a new phone or at what price. But now the money is in.
