Status: 02/17/2021 6:28 p.m.

Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) and Health Minister Heiner Garg (FPD) presented measures on Wednesday evening to reduce the incidence value in Flensburg and in the Schleswig-Flensburg district. New in Flensburg is a night curfew and tightening of contact restrictions.

After a conversation with the mayor of the city of Flensburg, Simone Lange (SPD) and the district administrator of the Schleswig-Flensburg district, Wolfgang Buschmann (independent), further restrictions were agreed for the city and district, said Prime Minister Daniel Günther at a press conference in Kiel .

Flensburg: Night curfew

“The situation in Flensburg is not getting any better,” said Günther. According to the state government, the infection rate is diffuse in all parts of the city. From Saturday, there is therefore a curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – initially for a week with the option of a further seven days if there is no significant improvement in the situation. If the curfew is violated, the city of Flensburg wants to impose fines. But there are exceptions. For example, visits to the doctor or trips to work may be made during this period.

No private meetings in Flensburg

In addition, a household will no longer be allowed to meet another person in Flensburg. “I know that this is a further restriction on people’s freedom. We just notice that the measures taken so far are not enough,” explained Günther. The contact restriction applies in public and in the private sector. This does not apply to visits to the hospital; registered relatives of residents of care facilities may continue to visit them. Further exceptions apply to couples with separate domiciles and children with separated parents.

Lord Mayor Lange: Will control strongly

From the point of view of the mayor of Flensburg, Simone Lange (SPD), these “drastic and incisive measures” are necessary. The suggestion came from the city because it had recognized that the incidence value was continuing to rise. The measures taken so far have not led to the result that they wanted, according to Lange in an interview with NDR Schleswig Holstein. She announced strong controls on the measures in force from Saturday. Anyone who is out and about during the night curfew for professional reasons must carry a certificate from their employer with them. “We hope that we will look at the situation differently next week and find out together that it works,” emphasized the Flensburg mayor.

Flensburg currently has 181.9 corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 7 days and is the only municipality in Schleswig-Holstein that is still in the three-digit range with this value.

Schleswig-Flensburg district: Schools and daycare centers remain closed

As in the city of Flensburg, the opening of the primary schools and daycare centers in the Schleswig-Flensburg district will be postponed – emergency care will initially remain until February 28, 2021. In addition, the rules that already apply in Flensburg will be applied in the group from Thursday (February 18, 2021). This means that there is an extended mask requirement, and you can only go shopping alone.

Garg announces “test regime”

In addition to the tightened measures, more tests are to be carried out in the municipalities. Health Minister Heiner Garg said that up to 230,000 rapid antigen tests from the state’s reserve should help set up municipal test centers. There, people in Flensburg and in the Schleswig-Flensburg district should be able to be tested free of charge. It was his expectation and his request that the rules be observed, said Garg.

RKI evaluation: Flensburg is a stronghold of mutations

The Evaluation of the RKI from February 10th the so-called ad-hoc survey shows abnormalities in more than half of the cases around Flensburg. According to Garg and Flensburg’s mayor Simone Lange, the British virus variant is currently responsible for well over a third of the infections in the city. During the survey, samples were examined for mutations between January 22 and 29, 2021. Everywhere else in Schleswig-Holstein and in most regions of Germany the proportion is below 20 percent.
