Queen Elizabeth, who turns 94 on Tuesday, has requested, according to British media, that no salute shots be fired this year in honor of her birthday. That has been an annual tradition for 68 years, ever since the Queen ascended the throne in 1952.
Elizabeth believes the salute shots are not appropriate in the “current circumstances,” reports royalty reporter Chris Ship Twitter.
The British government is also said to have informed local authorities that it is not expected to fly the British flag on Tuesday.
It was previously announced that the Trooping the Color event, which is held annually around June 10 in honor of Elizabeth’s birthday, has been canceled. There are no plans to give the party an alternative interpretation.
