No reason to envy AI, it lacks compassion – ANTARA News

What we worry about is that humans are lazy to learn. Relying on AI is because everything is facilitated by AI

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Many people are concerned about the presence of increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Industry circles see it as a challenge and opportunity, while workers and professionals see it as a threat that will replace it.

In fact, there is no need to worry so much because humans have a heart, will, awareness, initiative, and taste, which AI technology does not have.

Firman Kurniawan, an observer of digital culture and communication from the University of Indonesia, is convinced that humans cannot be rivaled by artificial intelligence devices in terms of will and awareness. Even an AI as advanced as ChatGPT cannot have its own initiative.

“While humans have a sense, will, and creativity in carrying out their work,” said Firman.

He advised that the existence of technologies such as ChatGPT be addressed wisely. Because AI technology does not have free will and has no will of its own, humans can take advantage of this loophole.

The latest development of ChatGPT, the most advanced AI for now, it has been able to write news, poetry, song lyrics, and even long articles like articles.

This fact makes media workers, writers, songwriters, and artists feel threatened.

Professionals who feel insecure because AI is getting smarter, it is enough to build confidence that technology is man-made which will not surpass the sophistication of its maker. Humans are God’s creations that are equipped with the most sophisticated software (heart-brain-soul) compared to other creatures, especially technology that is “only” made by humans and only has a “brain”.

However, don’t just stand by with this belief. If workers and professionals remain silent with undeveloped capacities and competencies, of course they will be crushed by the times and the technology that accompanies them.

New human resources will be safe when they continue to update and upgrade their capabilities and expertise so that they master technology that continues to grow rapidly.

No taste yet

AI technology, which has also penetrated into the entertainment sector, has become a concern for Airil Nur Abadiansyah. This musician who is a member of the Greenhouse Effect and Blacksmith groups is of the view that, however sophisticated AI is, so far it has not been able to produce value-conscious works.

“AI technology does not have a soul and taste, it is the opposite of humans,” Airil believes.

By adhering to this belief, he considers that works that are “human” in nature still have advantages and awareness of values. However, seeing the very ‘crazy’ development of technology, according to him, it is not impossible that in the future there will be an injection of taste for AI.

The man who is familiarly called Poppie Airil invites art connoisseurs to become filters with the limitations of taste and value.

Whether or not AI is a threat to artists seems to be “still in a gray area because at the moment it doesn’t touch directly.”

This view is no different from that expressed by film industry players. Because Ifa Isfansyah also doesn’t feel that AI is a threat to people who are involved in the entertainment industry, especially film. The chairman of the Indonesian Film Directors Club (IFDC) admits that he has not kept up with developments in AI technology in detail, but as far as he has seen “there has been no tendency for AI to become a threat to the film industry.”

Feels like a weakness

An AI technology expert who is also the creator of the Emprit Drone application, Ismail Fahmi, actually assesses that the element of “feeling” in humans can be a weakness. Because they have feelings, humans experience various emotions that make them not optimal in carrying out their work, then they are replaced by robots that are not “bothered”.

“However, what is called feeling, attention is for a specific task, it can be replaced,” explained Fahmi.

The founder of Media Kernels Indonesia then gave an example of an overseas nursing home, where residents are more comfortable with robots.

“They can be comfortable with robots. The robot can talk. Moreover, the current ChatGPT robot has extraordinary knowledge.”

Meanwhile, if accompanied by a human nurse, indeed humans have empathy, but also having emotions sometimes makes them impatient so that they cannot stay with patients for long, for example. Even though caring for the elderly requires a lot of patience, and it turns out that robots can do the job properly and professionally.

According to the graduate of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), because the AI indexes knowledge around the world, it is not surprising that the ChatGPT robot can become a fun friend to chat with.

Meanwhile in the art industry, with the sophistication of AI technology that continues to grow rapidly, Fahmi is worried that humans will become like zombies, because with ordinary skills he can produce extraordinary works with the help of AI.

He agrees with Yuval Noah Harari’s concern (Israeli historian) that the presence of AI will render humans useless.

“What we are worried about is that humans are lazy to learn. Relying on AI is because everything is facilitated by AI,” said Fahmi.

Then the doctor of Informatics Science who graduated from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands suggested that human resources in Indonesia continue to overcome backwardness, adapt to technological advances, so that they are not eroded and replaced by AI.

“How does AI empower us, actually think that way. How to use AI to empower almost more and more people. That’s why people who are advanced here have to catch up more, even higher.”

He emphasized that the position of AI towards humans is not defeating, but replacing. Philosophically, he agreed that humans, as God’s most perfect creation, would not be defeated by the technology they created.

But in practical life, according to the Master of Informatics lecturer at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta, AI technology with all kinds of intelligence injected into it has been able to replace the role of humans in many fields.

So don’t be too entertained by that philosophical view. Because, if you are lazy you will definitely be eroded by whatever it is, let alone AI which is getting smarter. Be a creator and controller of technology, not just a user or admirer.

Hence from that, asking children’s aspirations in the digital age feels obsolete because tomorrow every child is required to be able to create something, not what to become.
