No public welcome at the finish of upcoming Tour de France stages | NOW

No spectators are welcome at the finish of the coming stages in the Tour de France, organizer ASO has decided. The largest cycling race in the world will drive through areas where code red applies due to the corona virus in the coming days.

“The same rules will apply as during Paris-Nice earlier this year”, ASO director Yann Le Moenner confirms to the news agency Reuters.

At Paris-Nice, the multi-day French stage race that was held in March, no spectators were welcome in the last hundreds of meters before the finish, just as in a radius of 100 meters around the start.

In France there are fears of a second corona wave. Red zones were indicated on Saturday following a speech by Prime Minister Jean Castex, who said the situation in the country is deteriorating.

It is unclear for which stages the finish without an audience exactly applies. In any case, there will be no audience around the finish line of the fourteenth stage on Saturday. Also on Sunday, the Grand Colombier will finish without fans and no people will be allowed earlier during that stage when climbing the Col de la Biche.

During the first Tour week, many riders were concerned about the massive crowd on a number of cols, with some fans wearing no masks and cheering the riders passionately.
