The director found himself in the middle of a love triangle.
Vladimir Menshov is known not only as a talented actor and director, but also as the husband of Vera Alentova, with whom he lived until her death. Many fans considered celebrities to be one of the brightest couples in Russian cinema, but few people imagined how the celebrity’s personal life developed before the fateful meeting with his future wife.
As it turned out, before the all-Union glory, he lived in Vorkuta, where he first worked in the mines. But one day he found out that local television was about to launch in the city and he came to find a job there as an assistant director. There she met the film program editor Irina Gvozdeva, who came to work in the city with her husband.
At first, Menshov courted his chosen one secretly, but over time he practically ceased to hide his intentions. He even came to visit Gvozdeva when her husband was not at her house. And one day he found out about his wife’s admirer, so he ran home with an ax, trying to even score with young Menshov.
The loud crash shocked the whole city. As he writes “NZ TV”, all the neighbors had to calm down the heated chosen one Gvozdeva, who almost broke the door of his own apartment. And the future director after that incident unexpectedly left for the capital, because he could not come to terms with a love failure, simply leaving a letter of resignation on the manager’s desk. In Moscow, he entered the Moscow Art Theater School, where he met Vera Alentova.
