With its procession, understandable, of worries.
Bastia, and all of Corsica, feared the appearance of a new patient on the island.
News that would have swept away the serenity displayed by a majority of islanders in recent days.
Convinced that the epidemic is behind us.
False alarm, according to the ARS
We now know more about this story.
A tourist “responsible and exemplary”, according to the Regional Health Agency, went to consult today after presenting symptoms of the disease.
A first test was negative.
The serologist, on the other hand, was positive.
A result which may be at the origin of the rumor, wrongly.
This result does not mean that the patient is sick, but that he has been infected in the past.

As such, a second RT-PCR test, one of the most reliable medical techniques to detect Covid-19, was performed.
It also turned out to be negative.
After denying the rumor, the ARS has taken care to specify that such reactions can “encourage sick people not to go to the clinic to avoid being stigmatized. However, the clinic is the starting point for the contact-tracing strategy to limit the risk of the appearance of chains of contamination.”
She adds : “We must learn to live with the virus. The appearance of new cases should not provoke such reactions but invite each of us to respect barrier gestures and physical distancing.”
0.5% positivity
The ARS also recalls in its statement that the circulation of the virus remains at a very low level in Corsica.
