“This is not a tent. A temple of love. I have never experienced this.” He also realized that it was a bit historic somewhere. Stijn Meuris and Noordkaap were served The Barn today at Werchter Classic at 2.30 pm and filled it far beyond. 20,000 fans. 20,000 vocal cords and 40,000 enthusiastic hands.

Eleven songs on the set list. Eleven hits. Flemish heritage almost. 23 years after the last visit to Werchter, the lyrics of Noordkaap were still neatly in everyone’s mind. The Barn laughed, clapped and howled. A folk festival.
–
The set list contributed everything to that. ‘Panamarenko’ as the second track and a final shot with, hold on tight: ‘Satelliet Suzy’, ‘Poor Joe’, ‘Wat Is Kunst’, ‘Druk in Leuven’, ‘Would be a little bit of war’ and ‘I love you’. How hard can you earn a place as a Belgian band?

He himself called The Barn a temple of love, the tent also breathed that. A whole set long and with a boiling point at ‘I love you’. A song in stark contrast to the set – and a wonderful Lars Van Bambost on guitar – but the song that should not be missing. “Now we’re going to drink a great deal of our balls backstage and wake up again at Nick Cave”, said Meuris after the warm bath that was the whole show.
–
And also: “You were a great audience.” They were themselves. Awesome.
