No compulsory vaccination against Corona? A taboo wobbles | Currently Germany | DW

The CSU politician told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” that there was “too high a refusal to vaccinate among nursing staff in old people’s and nursing homes”. Therefore, the German Ethics Council should make proposals “whether and for which groups compulsory vaccination would be conceivable”.

Such an obligation is obviously quite conceivable – because the medical ethicist Wolfram Henn, himself a member of the German Ethics Council, apparently sees it similarly to Söder. Henn had already commented on the subject in a newspaper interview last week. He said a general compulsory vaccination against the corona virus was out of the question. A job-related vaccination requirement is conceivable – and this could affect people in care professions.

Vaccination as a “civic duty”?

Both Henn and Söder also complain that too little has been advertised for vaccination so far. To be vaccinated should be seen as a “civic duty”, said CSU politician Söder to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. He therefore proposed a state campaign to promote vaccination readiness, in which “role models from art, sport and politics” should take part. In the meantime, there is increasing evidence that there could be a kind of “mandatory vaccination through the back door” – because vaccinated people could enjoy noticeable advantages.

Bureaucratic and simple – a Hamburg vaccination center. The Corna vaccination has not yet been advertised in Germany.

No more quarantine for vaccinated people?

The draft of the “Sample Quarantine Ordinance”, which has not yet been passed by the Federal Cabinet, provides that those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered from COVID-19 are no longer subject to the obligation to test and quarantine after returning from risk areas. Individual federal states have already decided on such an exception in advance, including Saxony-Anhalt.

Since Friday, exceptions have been in effect in this state for people who can prove that they have fully completed a vaccination against the coronavirus at least 14 days before entry. Also excluded are people who were verifiably infected with COVID-19 at least three weeks ago and a maximum of six months ago.

Vacation in the risk area = quarantine after returning – despite vaccination or surviving corona infection. That could soon change in some federal states.

Other federal states are skeptical of such an exception. Hamburg and Thuringia, for example, will not make any exceptions for those who have been vaccinated or those who have recovered from COVID-19, according to the responsible departments. As a justification, it was said in Hamburg that there is currently no sufficient evidence that a vaccination or a survived corona infection would mean that other people could no longer be infected.
