No compensation for most people on the tax blacklist

It has also not yet been established for the other 50,000 people that they will receive financial compensation for the fact that they were wrongly seen as fraudsters.

Only those who have been wrongly rejected for amicable debt rescheduling as a result of their registration in this so-called FSV system, or who have had to wait a long time for this, will the government already make a proposal for compensation. They receive 500 euros for every six months that they have had to wait for a settlement. Between 5,000 and 14,000 people are eligible for this.

‘Costs nothing’

The vast majority of the FSV registered therefore only receive a letter of apology. “And that costs nothing.”

In the FSV, also known as the blacklist, the service collected all kinds of data about taxpayers who had committed fraud or were suspected of doing so by the tax authorities. Once on the list, it could get into big trouble. Genelva was such a person. In 2020 she told her story.

For example, victims of the allowance affair were not offered a payment arrangement because they were on the blacklist of the Tax Authorities. As a result, people fell into extremely deep debts with all the consequences that entailed. Allowances were also stopped right away if someone was put on the list.

Nationality, health

All kinds of personal data were processed in the system, which the tax authorities should not have used at all, such as nationality, data about health and data about criminal history. In addition, a lot of data turned out to be incorrect. The people on the list didn’t know anything about it, so they couldn’t object in any way.

Earlier this year, the Tax and Customs Administration received a record fine of 3.7 million euros from the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
