no charger or headphones included in the box, it is confirmed

The iPhone 12 will not be accompanied by a charger or a pair of wired headphones in the box, confirms an analyst. In order to save on the production cost of the iPhone, Apple would indeed have decided to limit the number of accessories offered for purchase.

A few days ago, analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Dan Ives announced the absence of EarPods wired headphones in the iPhone 12 box. Then a report from Barclays analysts came to announce the absence of the mains charger, usually included in the iPhone box. The report did not discuss the reasons behind Apple’s selling the charger separately.

Apple Seeks to Save

In a post relayed by our MacRumors colleagues, Ming-Chi Kuo now confirms Barclays’ assertions. According to his information, Apple assumes that most buyers already have an iPhone charger. Abandoning the included charger would therefore aim to avoid the accumulation of electronic waste. Apple would justify its decision by environmental considerations.

By skipping the included chargers and headphones, Apple would also seek to reduce production costs iPhone 12. Unsurprisingly, the production of new iPhones would be particularly expensive due to the integration of 5G. In order not to increase the final price of the iPhone, marketed at the same price as the iPhone 11 in 2019, and not to cut corners, Cupertino decided to save on the accessories offered.

Apple would therefore offer a 20W charger (against 18W for iPhone 11) separately in the trade. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino company would also cease production of the 5 W and 18 W chargers, deemed obsolete, within a few months. By 2021, Apple would no longer include a charger in the box of the iPhone SE 2020. However, the manufacturer will continue to offer a charger to buyers of an iPad, an iPad Air, and an iPad mini .

Ultimately, the only accessory found in the iPhone box is the Lightning to USB-C cable. Obviously, the abandonment of the included headphones and chargers only concerns the American, Asian and African markets. In Europe, Legislation Requires Apple to Provide Accessories for Purchase.
