NMBS must guarantee more early and late trains | Inland

The NMBS must ensure that more trains run at early and late hours and during the weekend, and that there is a minimum reception at every station. This is evident from a list of requirements for the new management contract with the railway company approved by the federal council of ministers. De Morgen was able to view the document, the newspaper writes today.

The management contract specifies which services SNCB will have to provide in the next ten years in exchange for its subsidies. The previous one dates back to 2008 and has been extended each time due to political upheaval.

Now the federal government has set a framework for a new agreement that will be negotiated further in the coming months. She believes, for example, that the NMBS should allow more trains to run at early and late hours and during the weekend. It is striking that there are now also requirements about the reception in the stations. Until now there are none, leaving Minister of Mobility Georges Gilkinet (Ecolo) powerless when the NMBS recently decided to close 44 counters.

The government has now also approved a framework for railway infrastructure manager Infrabel. In this bundle of requirements, it is notable, among other things, that the company must help create more and faster international train connections between European cities. By 2030, twice as many goods will have to be transported by rail than now.

Starting next week, the first working groups will consider the management contracts, which will take effect in December 2022.
