TRIBUNPONTIANAK.CO.ID – The nipah virus was first discovered in Malaysia. Until now, no cure has been found for the vaccine.
However, this virus is said to have the potential to cause a new pandemic.
The virus is named Nipah and was discovered in Asia by a Thai virus hunter, Supaporn Wacharapluesadee.
Launching Kompas.com quoting from the BBC, 12 January 2021, Wacharapluesadee, who is also a researcher at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, has taken thousands of samples of bats and detected many types of viruses.
Among the many types of corona virus that he found, there is another type of virus that he has managed to get, it is the nipah virus that can be transmitted to humans and there is no vaccine yet.
The nipah virus originates from fruit bat hosts and to date, this virus, abbreviated as NiV, has caused death among 40-75 percent of infected people.
Symptoms of Nipah Virus
Almost the same as Covid-19, quoted from the WHO website, NiV infection in humans can cause symptoms and some are asymptomatic.
The most severe effects mentioned can be in the form of acute respiratory infections, seizures, fatal encephalitis, causing coma within 24-48 hours.
