Nintendo CEO discusses Switch Pro rumors

CEO Shuntaro Furukawa was asked about the Switch Pro rumors

Lately, we’ve been hearing more and more rumors that Nintendo is working on a new Switch model. So far, Nintendo has not announced anything about a possible Switch Pro. The latest rumors date back to the end of May. At the time, news site Bloomberg claimed there would be a reveal just before E3 2021. This too was just a rumor.

The topic came up again at Nintendo’s most recent shareholders’ meetings. Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa has been asked about the Switch Pro rumors. His response was roughly translated as follows:

“We use Nintendo Direct to communicate information about individual products to our consumers at the right times. Going forward, Nintendo will continue to focus on providing our unique and original way of playing. Using the integrated hardware-software-specific video game platform to provide fun and grow our business. We are constantly developing hardware, software and accessories. However, I cannot make any statements about specific products in development.”

In short, it could still be that the Nintendo Switch Pro is in development. It is clear from Furukawa’s answer that it will only be announced through a Nintendo Direct. It remains speculation for now.
