Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa has officially apologized for the bug affecting the controllers of the Switch and Switch Lite consoles, reports the specialist media Kotaku. This defect appeared last year, and known as Joy-Con Drift, has poisoned the lives of many players. The console does indeed perceive movements even when the joystick was not actuated.
“We apologize to our players for any inconvenience caused by the Joy-Con. We are constantly seeking to improve our products. But, as you know, legal proceedings are underway in the United States so Nintendo will not say anything more about this, “the official said during a question and answer session with investors, at the start week.
Nintendo replaced or repaired the controllers at its expense
In France, last November, the UFC-Que Choisir also threatened to take legal action, accusing the Japanese company of “planned obsolescence”. The consumer association asked the video game giant to take charge of repairing or replacing the controllers. The two operations were invoiced respectively 15 and 45 euros. At the start of the year, Nintendo responded to this request and took charge of these operations.
The manufacturer hoped to have solved the problem in the new version of the console, released in the summer of 2019. But, similar problems would have appeared again, recalls 01Net. A real challenge for the Japanese brand which sells many products.
