Cerruti opened his first boutique of the same name ten years later on Place de la Madeleine in Paris, where he later moved his company’s offices to be close to the beating heart of fashion.

The Encyclopédie de la Mode described him as “the most French of the Italian designers.”

Over time, his fashion house expanded to include luxury lines and fragrances, grouped under his Cerruti 1881 brand.

The year came from the date Cerruti’s grandfather founded a textile factory in Biella. He also hired future fashion icon Giorgio Armani, who worked for the Cerruti brand for six years in the 1960s before founding his own famous company in 1975.

Signor Nino was one of the first to deconstruct a classic suit to bring it closer to the masses, and especially to women. Until then, trouser suits were only rarely seen on women.

Cerruti’s dress has also appeared on movie screens and on televisions around the world. He designed clothes for such films as Bonnie and Clyde, Pretty Woman and Basic Instinct.

Celebrities, led by Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts and Harrison Ford, have also fallen in love with his designs. He later took on the role of official designer in the mid-1990s Ferrari.

His work has won two Cutty Sark Men’s Clothing Awards, the Munich Fashion Week Award in 1981 and the Italian Pitti Uomo Award in 1986.

When he retired in 2000 after more than 40 years in the fashion industry, he recalled for Observer:

“The environment was very different then. When I started working, it was still a traditional culture with less individuality, more social correctness. This has quickly moved into a society in which there is more freedom, more originality and more incorrectness. When I started, it was a national industrial society; it is now a global communications company. ”

In 2000, he sold a majority stake in the company to the Italian industrial group Fin.Part. Less than a year later, the company bought the rest of the company and Cerruti left.

He died in the hospital of Vercelli, where he was transferred to hip surgery at the age of 91, the Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported.

“Nina Cerruti’s death has hit me hard. The giant of Italian business has left, “wrote the Italian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Gilberto Pichetto on Twitter.

“I will always remember him for his intuition, skill and foresight, which made Italian fashion famous worldwide,” he added.
