Nine artists in the third dimension

Nine artists in the third dimension is the title of the collective exhibition that 3 Punts presents. It should not be surprising that Barcelona’s galleries dedicated to contemporary art have titles in English, since for years many of them have recognized that they can continue to be active thanks to international collecting. The title of the show has resonances of galactic science fiction, but in reality it refers to the sculpture. The nine sculptors that make it up are representative of this Barcelona gallery. And the trio composed of Efraïm Rodríguez, Samuel Salcedo and Gerard Mas is the one that best represents the main line of 3 Points: a postmodern figuration – and therefore also modern – that assumes not only the heritage of the disruptive historical avant-gardes (Dada, Duchamp), but also its opposite and complementary, which is the will for excellence and technical virtuosity; and that also –second new synthesis- assumes the spirit of the time and the attitudes that have defined the last decades, which can include pop art and in some moments punk irreverence.

All the exhibited works have been made during the last months, in times of confinement, but not inaction. There we have the great loose and lying head Ark, sculpted in wood by Salcedo, or his Concrete Jungle, whose title is that of a wonderful song by Bob Marley.

‘First fall’, sculpted in painted cedar wood and hazelnut wood by Efraïm Rodríguez

Gallery 3 Points

Efraïm Rodríguez surprises with a rare statue made with hazelnut branches and cedar wood (First Fall) and a child portrait with a flat tire. Images such as the portrait of SpongeBob’s brain sculpted by Emilio García or the sculptures of bags full of black money by Alejandro Monge complete the exhibition.
