Nikolay Vassilev: The government does not distribute money in sacks, but in dump trucks

  • An 8% deficit awaits the former deputy prime minister
  • We will have to postpone the eurozone by half a century

“I think it’s a bit dramatic that we don’t have a budget yet. What kind of budget is being proposed is very dramatic,” former Deputy Prime Minister and former Economy Minister Nikolay Vassilev told BTV.

“I made the sharpest statement in my life in your studio in September 2020, because then Kiril Ananiev decided to increase the budget from BGN 43 billion to BGN 48 billion. Now I am moving by over BGN 16 billion more.” , Vassilev added.

The expenses of our country will be over BGN 63 billion, the former minister said. According to him, since December there are several billion transferred from the previous year. With them, our expenses go to BGN 67 billion.

We expect to have a budget for 2022 in April, but there will be an update of this budget in July. “This has never been the case and shows the government’s lack of seriousness towards the budget. The government does not distribute money in a hat or in sacks, but in dump trucks,” Vassilev said.

He showed the chart according to which in 2022 we are going to BGN 69 billion in expenses. “Great!” someone will say that the state will spend money. If aliens came to give us money, let’s spend more, but now we will have the most dramatic deficit in recent years. 4.1% is at stake, and I think it will be an 8% deficit. No one in the eurozone will want us with such a budget. We will have to postpone the eurozone by half a century, “Nikolay Vassilev added.

He warned that future generations would have to pay huge debts. “I support the single rate, but the news is that before 2022 they will not return the single rate,” he added.

However, he pointed out that he supports this cabinet and Prime Minister Petkov for many things, especially for the foreign policy with Northern Macedonia. “I do not mind the free kindergartens. Rather, I have questions about what solutions are offered for the demographic problem, which is the biggest now in front of society,” said Nikolay Vassilev.

He described the actions of the government and parliament to increase pensions as chaos. “Most viewers at the moment probably don’t remember what the minimum pension is. And I was wrong. The whole stability of the pension system was destroyed. Most pensioners receive the same pension, despite everyone’s different contributions to the pension system,” he explained.

He also made a mistake with subsidizing electricity, because not only people in need are helped, but even those who have a good income and can pay their bills without any problems.

He also warned that the moratorium on electricity and heating prices would make a sharp jump in bills when it falls.

According to Vassilev, inflation will not jump dramatically this year, but will reach 9% in the spring.
