Susan Fang Channels Nature’s Resilience into New Nike Women’s Collection
Inspired by a deep connection to nature and a personal journey of embracing movement, designer Susan Fang has unveiled her debut collection with Nike. The collaboration builds upon Fang’s work with Nike’s Boundless Girl initiative, were she fostered a playful, empowering environment for young girls in rural Yunnan, and translates that spirit of gentle strength into wearable art.
The collection is a vibrant dialog between athletic performance and natural beauty, drawing inspiration from the ephemeral dance of light on water, the delicate bloom of flowers, and the flowing energy of the natural world. Fang, known for her dreamy aesthetic and intricate craftsmanship, uses these elements to celebrate women’s resilience and the emotional power of sport.
“Sport wasn’t always easy for me,” Fang explains, “but I’ve always cherished the joy and memories it creates. This collection is about blending design, style, and athleticism to express the beauty of both people and nature, and to keep those feelings alive.”
A key influence behind the collection is Fang’s mother, a self-taught painter whose work celebrates the vitality of the natural world. This familial connection is beautifully woven into the footwear, with a reimagined Nike V2K Run featuring ripples taken directly from a childhood drawing and a Nike dunk Low adorned with jacquard fabric inspired by her mother’s artwork.Both styles are further embellished with embroidered flowers blooming around the iconic Swoosh, a testament to the creative legacy shared between mother and daughter.
Beyond footwear, the collection features a range of apparel and accessories. A statement jacket is brought to life with Fang’s signature three-dimensional beaded flowers, while sports bras, shorts, and long-sleeve tees showcase delicate forget-me-not prints. Shoulder bags and socks complete the offering, all unified by a palette of airy blues, fresh greens, and dawn yellows – colors that evoke feelings of love, memory, and renewal.
Fang’s initial spark for the collection came from a simple dive, captivated by the moment sunlight pierced the water and illuminated rising bubbles. This fleeting image became a central motif, expressed through hand-beaded details that mimic rippling streams and floating blossoms.These fluid forms, both delicate and powerful, represent the inner strength of women and elevate athletic wear into a powerful expression of style and emotion.
“I hope that when people wear this collection, they experience a quiet, profound joy – the same feeling I had watching those bubbles of light rise through the water,” fang shares.
