Nigerien Armed Forces: 862 soldiers of the Nigerian 10th Battalion (NERBAT) ready to serve MINUSMA

Ouallam field hosted this Friday 25 November 2022 the solemn pre-deployment training end ceremony for 862 soldiers of the Nigerian 10th Battalion (NERBAT) of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). Chaired by Brigadier General Amadou DIDILI, Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, this ceremony marks the end of ten weeks of intense training in peacekeeping operations. It took place in the presence of Major General Salifou MODY, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, several civil and military officials and a delegation from the United States Embassy in Niger, led by Mr. Ron PERKEL, Charge d’Affaires of the United States United States Embassy in Niger.

During this training, the 862 Soldiers that make up 10th NERBAT went through several training sessions. These include, among others, training in international humanitarian law (IHL); soldier skills training; motorized training exercises; specific training against improvised explosive devices and tactical assistance practices for combat casualties. Addressing them, the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense invited them to demonstrate responsibility and discipline, as their predecessors did in foreign missions. You are now ready to fulfill your mission within MINUSMA. Always keep in mind that you are our ambassadors during your stay in Mali. As such, you will need to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, altruism and unfailing discipline. In a word, you must always be exemplary. I already know that I can count on you to perpetuate the solid reputation of the Nigerian contingents who have preceded you in external theaters of operations.

The ceremony concluded with a guided tour of the rolling stock made available to the Battalion to enhance its capabilities.
