Nigerian pop singer, author and producer Davido has reached a commercial milestone for African music by surpassing one billion streams on the Spotify platform.
David Adedeji Adeleke was born in Atlanta (Geoprgia, USA) in 1992 and grew up in Lagos. Thus, according to the media outlet Music in Africa, pop star Davido has joined the club of WizKid, Burn Boy y CKaystellar musicians who have surpassed that mark of one billion listeners in the different streaming services.
This achievement is part of a broader trend of artists from Nigeria and other parts of Africa increasing their audience on listening services.
Davido has 5.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify, while WizKid has 8.4 million, Burna Boy 15.5 million, and CKay tops them all with 16.1 million, combined listenings of his recordings across all platforms.
Davido will release a new album at the end of the year.
