Niederreiter and Kukan close to the exit

The chances of seeing one or more Swiss players in the play-off quarter-finals are diminishing.

Both Nino Niederreiter with the Carolina Hurricanes and Dean Kukan with the Columbus Blue Jackets are close to the exit, being down 3-1 in their series.

Carolina lost 3-4 in Game 4 of the series against the Boston Bruins. A defeat particularly for the Hurricanes, who led 2-0 until the 48th minute thanks to goals from Justin Williams (10th) and Jordan Martinook (33rd). But Raleigh’s franchise subsequently conceded four goals in 6’51 ”. Niederreiter, who had nearly 11 minutes of play, found himself on the ice during the 1-2 and 2-2 which explain his record of -2.

For its part, Columbus conceded a third loss against Tampa Bay Lightning (1-2). The Blue Jackets came back to 1-2 in the 26th minute on a goal from Cam Atkinson but goalkeeper Andreï Vasilevski was then intractable. Yet the balance of shots on goal (29-22) was favorable to Kukan’s teammates. The latter played 12’29 ”.

Besides Niederreiter and Kukan, Jonas Siegenthaler (Washington Capitals) and Philipp Kurashev (Chicago Blackhawks) also find themselves one defeat of elimination. For all the other Swiss, the season is already over.
