Cage plays Paul Matthews, an ordinary man who unexpectedly begins appearing in the dreams of peopel worldwide, initially as a subconscious meme before experiencing a surge in unwanted fame. Despite the character being described as potentially his most “boring” role to date, Cage found the premise deeply resonant, drawing parallels to his own experiences with public scrutiny and the loss of control that comes with notoriety.
“With Kristoffer [Borgli], the director, I felt that he was operating on a level that nothing needed to be added, taken away, or altered,” Cage told IMDb in 2023.
