Neubrandenburg Mayoral Race Heats Up as Klose Enters the Fray
The race for mayor of Neubrandenburg is intensifying as Nico Klose, an independent candidate and the current mayor of Neverin, officially launched his campaign. This comes nearly three weeks after CDU candidate Frank Benischke began his campaign. Klose marked the occasion wiht a gathering at the “Open Mühle” meeting place, formerly known as Kornhus, in Neubrandenburg.

Klose addressed his guests, outlining his vision for Neubrandenburg, focusing on the cityS economy, the importance of volunteerism, and fostering solidarity within the city governance.
Political Support and Endorsements
The campaign launch drew local and federal political figures. Erik von Malottki (SPD), a member of the Bundestag for constituency 16 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and district administrator for Vorpommern-greifswald, voiced his support for Klose. Von Malottki expressed regret over the resignation of current mayor Silvio Witt but conveyed confidence in Klose’s ability to fill Witt’s shoes.

anna, a 20-year-old resident, shared her experience of meeting Klose: I was once at a Halloween party in Neverin and saw how much Nico Klose was committed to people.
She further explained that she encountered him making election advertisements near the Datze-center in Neubrandenburg and took the opportunity to learn more about his platform.
Election Details and What’s at Stake
Neubrandenburg residents will head to the polls on May 11 to elect their new mayor and the District Administrator for the Mecklenburg Lake District. The city anticipates a runoff election, scheduled for May 25. Silvio Witt, the current mayor, will step down at the end of May, following his unexpected resignation declaration in October 2024.
Along with Nico Klose, eight othre candidates are vying for the mayoral position.
