British singer and model Nick Kamen has passed away at the age of 59. This is confirmed by a friend of the family BBC.
Kamen was a big star in the 1980s, and is best known for the song “I Promised Myself”. He broke through with the song “Each Time You Break My Heart” which he wrote together with the pop queen Madonna (62).
Kamen also received a lot of attention when he appeared in an advertisement for the jeans brand Levis in the mid-1980s. The commercial was filmed in a laundromat, and quickly helped Kamen’s career take off.
It was after this commercial that Madonna discovered the 59-year-old. According to the BBC, she fell for Kamen’s “charisma and beautiful voice” at the time.
Nick Kamen was his stage name – his real name was Ivor Neville Kamen.
The cause of death is not yet known, but according to the BBC, he passed away on Tuesday 4 May after a long illness.

On Instagram, Kamen’s close friend, the artist Boy George (59), paid tribute to his deceased friend.
“Rest in peace to the world’s most beautiful and sweetest man, Nick Kamen,” he writes in the post.
