Sabres Sign Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to One-Year Deal
The Buffalo Sabres have added depth to thier goaltending group, signing Alexandar Georgiev to a one-year contract worth $825,000. The move provides the Sabres with another option behind Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Alex Lyon, and Devon Levi as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Georgiev joins the Sabres after a 2023-2024 campaign split between the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche, where he posted a 15-win, 45-game season with a .875 save percentage. While his recent performance has been a concern, the 29-year-old has demonstrated success in the NHL, notably leading the league in shutouts during the 2022-2023 season with the New York Rangers and again in 2023-2024 with the Avalanche.
The signing comes as several veteran goaltenders remain available on the open market. As of today, Ilya Samsonov, James Reimer, and Georgii Romanov are the only three netminders with NHL experience from the 2024-2025 season still seeking contracts for the next campaign.
