The Boston Bruins were faster than the Tampa Bay Lightning. On Tuesday, the Florida franchise beat the Columbus Blue Jackets (3-2) in a historic five-overtime game. The next day, the Bruins needed “only” two overtime to beat the Carolina Hurricanes (4-3), for the start of the series between the two teams in the first round of the NHL play-offs.

The decisive goal was scored by Patrice Bergeron after 1’13 ” of play in second overtime. David Pastrnak, Charlie Coyle and David Krejci were the Bruins’ other scorers. For the Carolina Hurricanes, Joel Edmundson, Brock McGinn and Haydn Fleury had scored. Hurricanes goaltender Petr Mrazek cracked 36 saves. The two teams will meet on Thursday for the second game of the series.
