NFL: Rams beat champions in round of records

Baltimore kicker Justin Tucker took care of the moment of the day at Detroit’s Ford Field. The veteran kicked the Ravens with a field goal from 66 yards to a wafer-thin 19:17 victory over the Lions. Until then, Matt Prater, currently with the Arizona Cardinals, had held the record with a successful attempt from 64 yards away.

Not only was Tucker’s Kick the longest successful attempt in NFL history, Fortuna also helped the 31-year-old. Because the ball first landed on the crossbar and already let the first Detroit fans cheer. But to the horror of the hosts, the leather decided to jump through the goal posts and thus prevented the Lions from winning the first time of the season.

Highlight too little for jaguars

Speaking of the Prater: The kicker also played a role in the record that the fans in Jacksonville saw in the 19:31 bankruptcy of the Jaguars against the Arizona Cardinals. Jamal Agnew carried a failed field goal of the kicker over 109 yards for a touchdown back into the end zone, setting the NFL record for Antonio Cromartie and Cordarrelle Patterson for the longest distance covered in a play to six points. As an aside: Prater would have pulverized his own NFL record, which was valid until then, with his attempt from 68 yards. The record now belongs to Ravens kicker Tucker.

In any case, the Arizona Cardinals kept their clean slate with their win in Jacksonville. In addition, there are also their division rivals LA Rams, the Carolina Panthers, who had already defeated Houston 24: 9 on Thursday, as well as surprisingly the Denver Broncos (26: 0 over the New York Jets) and the Las Vegas Raiders, who fight against the Miami Dolphins won another dramatic overtime thanks to a field goal in the last second with 31:28, unbeaten. Thanks to kicker Daniel Carlson’s accuracy, the Raiders hold 3-0 for the first time since the 2002/03 season after three games.

Stafford dwarfs Brady

The first defeat after ten wins across all seasons set it for old master Brady and the Buccaneers in the hit against the Rams. The 44-year-old was clearly overshadowed by his counterpart Matthew Stafford. Brady threw a touchdown pass and once dug himself into the end zone, but this time it was no match for Stafford’s four touchdown passes. For the second time in his career, the former Lions playmaker has three wins after three games.

Stafford (Mi.) made the Buccaneers’ masterful defense look old that day

Stafford, who had moved from Detroit to Los Angeles in exchange with Jared Goff before this season, passed the praise for his performance volley on to coach Sean McVay. “He’s doing an amazing job giving us moves that keep the defense going,” said the 33-year-old, who is playing for a team that is one of the contenders for the title for the first time in his career. Brady, who won his seventh title with Tampa Bay last season, didn’t get going this time. “We got off to a bad start and so we more or less followed the whole game,” said the superstar.

Bitter bankruptcy for Mahomes

For another superstar of the league, however, it surprisingly set the second defeat in the third game. Patrick Mahomes had to admit defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers with the Kansas City Chiefs at 24:30 and is only fourth in the table of the Western Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) behind Raiders, Broncos and Chargers. Mahomes was this time despite three touchdowns with two interceptions, the second of which initiated the winning attack series of the Chargers 1:42 min. Before the end, one of the coffin nails for Kansas City. In addition, the guests from LA conquered two more ball losses from the home side.

Justin Herbert clearly outshone Mahomes with four touchdown passes, including the decisive one on Mike Williams with 36 seconds remaining. As an aside: The Chiefs had given Herbert the opportunity to decide the game through a penalty for pass interference (obstruction of the pass recipient). The fact that Mahomes cracked the pass mark of 15,000 yards earlier than any quarterback in NFL history in his 49th match was ultimately little consolation for the Chiefs. Even more: Head coach Andy Reid had to be taken to a hospital by ambulance after the game because of dehydration. A little later, however, the all-clear was given.

49ers lose at the last second

There was also a risk of heart attacks in San Francisco. Because the until then unbeaten 49ers led in the eternally young Schlager against the Green Bay Packers 37 seconds before the end with 28:27 and were allowed to speculate with the third win in the third game. But Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers led the guests at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara with two passes over 25 and 17 yards to Davante Adams still within field goal distance. Kicker Mason Crosby completed the last-minute comeback with a successful attempt from 51 yards and gave Green Bay the second win in a row after the botched start against the New Orleans Saints.

Josh Allen provided another quarterback gala this Sunday in Buffalo. The Bills playmaker took care of the football team from Washington with 32 passes for 358 yards and four touchdown passes with a clear 43:21 success almost single-handedly. In addition, the 25-year-old ran into the end zone himself once in the second win in a row for the Bills. With his 26th touchdown in the running game, Allen replaced Jack Kemp as the club record holder in this category at the top.
