NFL: DeSean Jackson to visit concentration camp

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson has accepted an invitation from a 94-year-old concentration camp survivor to visit Auschwitz.

Everything was done during a virtual discussion, reports Jerusalem Post.

The Eagles player was disciplined last Friday by his team following anti-Semitic comments on social media as well as a reference to Adolf Hitler.

In addition to a fine, Jackson also pledged to pay money to the Jewish community, reports ESPN.

Jackson, who apologized last week, had a virtual conversation with Edward Mosberg, a Holocaust survivor, who wore a concentration camp uniform during the call.

“I grew up in Los Angeles and I didn’t spend a lot of time with members of the Jewish community and I don’t know much about their history. It was a powerful experience to learn and educate myself, “he said on the call.

Mosberg invited Jackson to visit Auschwitz last week in an open letter after Jackson’s social media posts. Mosberg survived several concentration camps, including Mauthausen, and said his late wife was an Auschwitz survivor.

“We are working with DeSean and his team to set the dates for this trip and we are pleased that he has accepted,” said Jonny Daniels, the founder of From The Depths, behind the Zoom call between Jackson and Mosberg.

Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest concentration camp in Nazi Germany; 1.1 million men, women and children were killed there.

The receiver of the New England Patriots, Julian Edelman, who is Jewish, invited Jackson to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
