Neymar will not rely on FIFA to leave PSG

It was the sword of Damocles over the heads of Parisian leaders. An asset that Neymar Jr and a future contender (at random FC Barcelona) could have drawn to get out of negotiations that promise to be as complicated as last summer, when the news of the transfer window vibrated at the announcement of the arrival of private jets filled with Barcelona leaders at Le Bourget airport.

As RMC Sport explained to you last December, a recent modification of the FIFA regulations allowed Neymar to leave PSG after his third year of contract, ie at the end of his “protected period” as explained regulations on the status and transfer of players. In a period of confinement, you may have time to read it in full, we will link it to you here.

A solution that would have allowed Neymar to leave the club for an indemnity fixed by FIFA, according to more objective criteria (but also more unknown, since this point of regulation has only very rarely been used, and never by players prominent) and probably lower than the 200 million claimed by PSG this summer.

A solution which nevertheless involves some risks, in particular for the future club which in no case has the right to encourage the player to use this method. Given the not really idyllic relations between PSG and FC Barcelona, the risk for the Catalans would have been maximum.

And this Thursday, the Catalan press, in this case the daily Sport, so we learn that Neymar will not use this device to leave PSG. In his latest declarations, the Brazilian prodigy assured that he felt good in Paris and stayed there to win the Champions League. For the first time since his arrival, the Parisian club has also passed the pitfall of the knockout stages with a qualification behind closed doors against Dortmund, in which he played a large part, even scoring a header.

Barca has not given up on bringing Neymar to Sport, but club estimates FIFA compensation may be 180 million (to be paid immediately, just like PSG had to pay 222 million of the ruby Neymar clause on the nail). The club would favor a negotiated solution, with a staggered payment and players included in the exchange, possibly Antoine Griezmann, but not sure that, like Rakitic or others last summer, the number 7 of the Blues agreed.
