News, Netflix | Netflix wants to crack down on account sharing

Power giant Netflix is testing new tools to prevent users from sharing their account with people outside the home.

Among the measures is a two-step login, and users have been notified when logging in that the account must be confirmed via email or text message.

“This test is designed to ensure that people using Netflix accounts have permission to do so,” a Netflix representative told the Australian Channel ABC News.

Some users have received the message: “If you do not live with the owner of this account, you must have a separate account to look further”, reports BBC.

According to the channel, no decision has been made on whether the power service will introduce this solution permanently. Netflix is trying to crack down on users who share their login information, but it is unclear how many are violating company policies.

Streaming services like Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime and Disney allow users to create multiple profiles for the same account, but these are only for people in the same household.

Netflix has done very well in a corona-shut world and has more than 200 million users.
