NEWS: Fajardo said it is time for Uribe to withdraw from politics

The former presidential candidate and former governor of Antioquia is already starting engines for the presidential campaign. Fajardo said that it is time for Uribe to withdraw from politics and the senator answered him.

It is time for Uribe to retire

Sergio Fajardo affirmed that it is time for Uribe to withdraw from politics so that the country changes. The statements were made in the middle of an interview with the newspaper Time.

“Álvaro Uribe played an important role in the last 20 years of national politics, but it is time to turn the page. Colombia needs another type of leadership and another type of politics,” Fajardo said of the former president.

In addition, he emphasized that: “As long as Uribe continues to be the protagonist, the story will be the same, repeated with a few tweaks. It already was.”

On the other hand, he affirmed that the Democratic Center will not continue in power and that he has nothing in common with the party. In such a way, that he will not seek the support of that community to become president.

“I have nothing in common with this political project. In all the political campaigns in which I have participated we have confronted its candidates. It is different that I do not spend it insulting them because I consider it harmful to democracy,” said Fajardo.

On the fame that he has when being called “lukewarm” he said: “I am not going to waste time in ball games and insults and offenses to show myself as a brave man.”

Uribe’s response

In response to Fajardo’s statement, Uribe used his personal Twitter account to respond to him.

He wrote: “Dr Sergio Fajardo candidate for Santos, anointed as his successor.”
