Tokyo 2020: Covid worries, towards closed-door races
The current reduced restrictive measures, expiring on 11 July, could be extended and therefore still be in force at the time of the start of the Olympics, according to Japanese newspapers, and provide for the presence of a maximum of 5,000 spectators at the events sportsmen. Japan has so far recorded a rather small number of cases and deaths from the pandemic, but only 11% of the population is fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 802,038 infections and 14,754 deaths have been recorded in a population of 126 million inhabitants; in Tokyo alone, the infections were 174,675 and the deaths 2,220.
