A HVG citing the scientific journal Nature and the University of Geneva, he writes that, essentially by accident, two ancient galaxies were discovered by astronomers while studying two other galaxies. With the help of the ALMA Observatory in Chile, they gained insight into the early cosmic period of the universe that formed 13.8 billion years ago.
The galaxies used to be hidden because previous observation methods could not penetrate the opaque cloud of cosmic dust. One galaxy is the most distant, dust-hidden galaxy ever observed, according to a University of Geneva publication. Unlike previous optical or infrared telescopes, the ALMA Observatory in the Atacama Desert of Chile is able to detect at much longer wavelengths in the millimeter range. This allowed them to penetrate the cloud of gas and dust and observe the galaxies hiding there.
