New Yorkers say they are ready for third dose of vaccine

For José, getting the third dose of the Pfizer vaccine is something that he thinks could save him from catching the virus or becoming seriously ill. .

Although José is not eligible because of his age or because of high-risk diseases, he is eligible because he works in a place where he interacts with many people.

“Every day with 300 people,” José said.

So José, who works in a medical center, says it is best to take that booster dose and he will.

“I already wore both, but if you have to put it on (the third one) I put it on. I’m not the age they say, but if you have to wear it, I’ll wear it ”.

This Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the use of a third dose of the Pfizer vaccine for those over 65 and for those who have a disease that if contagious could worsen their health.

Likewise, for people between 18 and 64 years old who are health workers or who have another job that puts them at greater risk of being exposed to the virus.

“High pressure, asthmatic, diabetic I have everything.”

Such is the case of Elizabeth Rosado, 60, who was immunized with Pfizer vaccines six months ago and now only waits for her doctor’s recommendation to get a third one.

“It is very good news for people who have other conditions,” said Rosado.

Leonor Huerta, who works selling groceries and vegetables, says she wants to get the booster shot so she can take off her mask. That way, she would feel more confident serving buyers.

-Do you feel safe?

“Not yet. Because not all of us are vaccinated yet.”

Nationwide about 26 million people would qualify for the Pfizer booster shot. As long as they are within these eligible groups and their last dose was six months ago.

New Yorkers who are eligible to get their third dose of this vaccine can make an appointment through the vaccine finder.nyc.gov website.
