New York wants to attract tourists again with a new campaign: day pass

With a new campaign, the metropolis of New York, which has been severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic, is gradually trying to attract tourists again. Under the motto “All in New York”, which in German can mean “Everything in New York”, but also “Everything for New York”, the residents of the metropolitan region should first be tempted to explore their homeland more extensively, like the NYC & Company Tourism Board announced. Later on, regional, supra-regional, nationwide and then international visitors will be addressed again – all with an emphasis on distance and hygiene rules.

The campaign is an “important first step” in the “challenge of rebuilding tourism, which should not be underestimated,” said Fred Dixon. “The recovery of tourism will be gradual, but it will come.”

Since relatively strict restrictions on public life were imposed on the metropolis, which was badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, in March, tourism has largely collapsed. The restrictions are currently being gradually relaxed, but many attractions such as the theaters on Broadway have already announced that they will not reopen until 2021. In addition, far-reaching entry restrictions apply to many countries – including Germany.

In 2019, New York’s tourism industry, which employs around 400,000 people, grew for the tenth year in a row. Almost 67 million people had visited the city. For this year, the tourism authority, which had to release a large part of its employees, does not even want to present a forecast. (dpa)
