Switzerland’s candidacy was officially presented in 2011. A non-permanent seat in the highest UN body would allow Switzerland to “commit to achieving its foreign policy objectives and to put its forces at the service. of peace and security, ”said the Federal Council in a press release. The choices will be made in an election in New York in June 2022.

In her video speech, the President of the Confederation underlined the importance of dialogue and the search for consensus. She recalled that Switzerland strives first and foremost to find consensual solutions and that only dialogue can lead to lasting solutions.
