The New York Stock Exchange is closed for today. On New Year’s Day For the latest trade (Dec. 31), the Dow Jones Stock Exchange closed positive. It hit record highs, while the S & P500 closed plus hitting a record high as well. Investors responded to the number of applicants for unemployment benefits, which appeared to have dropped for two consecutive weeks.
The Dow closed at 30,606.48 points, an increase of 196.92 points, or 0.65 percent.
The Nasdaq closed at 12,888.28 points, up 18.28 points, or 0.14 percent.
S & P500 closed at 3,756.07 points, up 24.03 points or 0.64 percent.
For the full year of 2020, the Dow rose 7.3%, while the S & P500 rose 16.3% and the Nasdaq was up 43.6% as investors flock to buy tech stocks. Which has benefited from the spread of the COVID-19 virus
