New York Red Bulls sign Struber as coach – transfer to Barnsley due

Armas successor

The New York Red Bulls have found a new head coach 32 days after Chris Armas was fired. As the association officially announced, Gerhard Struber will take over the office. Since the 43-year-old Austrian was still under contract with FC Barnsley, the MLS club had to transfer a transfer fee of an unknown amount to Barnsley.

“Gerhard is an intelligent trainer and we are happy to welcome him to our club,” said NYRB sports director Kevin Thelwell. “Gerhard’s style of play and his experience in the youth field fit our philosophy and – more importantly – his person fits our club culture.”

“I’m looking forward to hopefully getting to know my new team soon,” said Struber. “We want to achieve our ambitious goals and keep developing. The challenge of working in MLS makes me very proud and gives me enormous motivation for this great task. “

Struber started his coaching career in the youth department of Red Bull Salzburg. Via FC Liefering and Wolfsberger AC, he landed at FC Barnsley in November 2019. With the “Tykes” he trained a total of 39 games and achieved a point average of 1.28.
