New York plant Silvesterparty am Times Square

New YorkThe traditional New Year’s Eve celebration in New York’s Times Square can again take place this year with numerous guests. People who could prove a full vaccination against the corona virus would be admitted as spectators, Mayor Bill de Blasio told journalists on Tuesday. There will be exceptions for people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. You would have to present a negative corona test.

The party should be “big” and “full of life,” said de Blasio. “We want it to be a big celebration of New York.”

Because of the corona pandemic, there was only a small celebration with invited guests in Times Square last year. Traditionally, a glowing ball of time is lowered from a pole in the famous plaza in central Manhattan.

Corona: Washington relaxes mask requirements

In the USA, the corona situation has recently eased. The authorities in the capital Washington announced on Tuesday that the mask requirement would be relaxed. As of next week, wearing a mask indoors in Washington will no longer be mandatory. Certain areas such as local public transport and schools are excluded. Private companies can still decide for themselves whether to require their employees to wear masks, Mayor Muriel Bowser explained on Twitter.
