New York joins in sending its support to Honduras

Community leaders gathered at the Bronx Community College Hall of Fame to make a special appeal.

“We are asking for clothes, medicine; especially medicine for children, shoes, socks, medicine. We want to impact in a positive way those who are suffering in Honduras,” explains Cabrera.

There are about one million Hondurans in the United States, and New York City is home to the largest Garifuna population outside of Honduras.

The fundraiser will last one week, at The Bronx Community College.

“We will be from Saturday to Saturday, from 9 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. We are asking you to come in, you do not even have to enter here at the Bronx Community College, you can leave all the resources here in front and they are going to enter it here “, Cabrera comments

In addition to the Bronx Community College, there is another drop-off point in Queens, located at 8907 Astoria Boulevard.

Items that will be accepted include hygiene and cleaning products, bottled water, and batteries.

Also non-perishable food and diapers for babies and adults.

Judge Carmen R. Velásquez commented: “Not adult clothing, but children’s clothing, yes, because it is needed. We are going to try to pack them. We are going to take them where they are needed, more than in the big cities, to the cities. small ones where there is the greatest need. ”
