New York City is shrinking. For the second time in a row, the number of city dwellers has fallen year-on-year. According to the US Bureau of Statistics, it fell by 40,000 to 8.4 million in the 12 months ended July 2018. The development is confirmed by the real estate company Redfin: More New Yorkers are looking for a house outside the city than foreigners looking for a place to stay in the Big Apple. This trend has recently accelerated. That’s not surprising. Because the city is a victim of its success.
