New York International Auto Show postponed to August 2021

The 2021 New York auto show will ultimately take place during August next year, four months later than planned, organizers said on Tuesday.

New York auto show postponed to August 20-29, 2021

The event, which has been postponed and then canceled this year due to the still raging coronavirus pandemic, will take place from August 20 to 29, 2021, with a press day on August 19, officials said. The 2021 version was originally scheduled to run from April 2-11.

A postponement also motivated by the desire to offer a larger space

If the organizers of the show admittedly invoked the pandemic on Tuesday to postpone the show once again, they also indicated that the choice of a new date was also motivated by the desire to take advantage of an extension of the convention center where is taking place the event.

“Looking at all of the issues we face, we have determined that moving the dates for NYIAS 2021 to August is not only a responsible decision, but also places us in a unique position to occupy the expanded Javits Center with new space. ‘Additional 100,000 square feet of ground floor exposure and more,’ said Mark Schienberg, president of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association, in a statement.

The expansion will not only add more floor space, Schienberg said, but also additional event spaces, meeting rooms and a rooftop pavilion.

According to the organizers, the 2021 show will include an expanded electric vehicle exhibition that will include presentation stands and a test track.

Other fairs postponed

The postponement of the New York auto show is the latest in a reorganization of event dates in response to the pandemic.

The Detroit show, originally scheduled for June 2021, announced last month that it was postponed to September.

The move came weeks after the organizers of the Los Angeles Auto Show announced they would be moving the 2020 show from November this year to May 2021. The goal: to avoid being stuck between the dates initially set for the New York and Detroit 2021 shows.

To those who feared that the next auto shows will ultimately only be virtual events, the organizers of the NYIAS bring reassuring news, since one of the primary motivations of the postponement is linked to the desire to take advantage of an enlarged space to present vehicles “in real mode”.
