New York – At least one person was killed when a helicopter crashed into a skyscraper in New York City. The fire department of the US east coast metropolis confirmed on Monday on Twitter. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said at the scene of the accident that the helicopter tried to make an emergency landing on the skyscraper roof. A fire broke out, but the fire brigade got it under control.

The crash occurred on Manhattan Seventh Street near the famous Times Square. At the time of the crash, the weather was bad and it was raining. The clouds were so low that the tops of the skyscrapers could not be seen.

The fire department announced on Twitter that the helicopter had crashed on the roof of the building. An earlier tweet from the fire department said the helicopter had crashed into the skyscraper.

The police blocked the streets around the scene of the accident. Numerous rescue workers were on duty. Cuomo said people in the affected skyscraper said they felt the building shake when the helicopter crashed.

The White House announced that US President Donald Trump had been informed of the crash. The FAA said it was collecting information about the incident.

In his brief statement, Cuomo was also asked about the attacks of September 11, 2001, when terrorists steered aircraft into the World Trade Center in New York, among other places. There is no evidence that it is a similar incident, said the governor.
