He governor from New York, Andrew Cuomo, said on May 16, 2020 that new cases confirmed covid-19 come mainly from persons than They left his homes to go shopping, exercise or socialize, instead of essential workers.

“That person got infected and went to the hospital or that person got infected and went home and infected other people,” Cuomo said during his daily press conference on the outbreak of coronavirus.

Official data showed that the number of new cases statewide it is fluctuating between 2,100 and 2,500 per day. On Saturday, May 16, the number of new cases dropped to 2,419, from 2,762 on Friday, May 15.

Cuomo said last week he released the theory that the new cases came from essential workers, which was “wrong”.

“The infection rate among essential workers it is lower than the general population and these new cases come mainly from people who are not working and that they are in their homes, “he said.

The state’s budget director, Robert Mujica, said authorities hope to “learn much more” over the next week about the genesis of new cases from tracking of contacts.

Cuomo stressed that New York is hiring thousands of workers to track the contacts of people who gave positive for him new coronavirus. Health experts argue that this type of tracing it is essential to isolate potentially contagious people in order to limit new outbreaks.
