New York governor responds to Trump’s attacks on deconfinement: “He does nothing, he has nothing to do”

The governor of the State of New York, Andrew Cuomo, sounded the charge on Friday against US President Donald Trump, accusing him of not wanting to help the states out of containment, while however wishing to pose as a national guide.

“It is doing nothing” to support the gradual lifting of containment measures, he said. “He says: ‘it is the choice of states, of governors'”.

“All he does is walk in front of the procession,” he said annoyed, “but it has nothing to do with the organization of the parade. The governors will reopen when they feel that it is time.” Andrew Cuomo was responding to a question regarding a new round of tweets from the President targeting him.

“Let’s keep the emotions, the politics and the egos out of that,” urged Andrew Cuomo to Donald Trump, who had asked him, via Twitter, to “spend more time acting and less complaining” .

Since the beginning of the week, the two men have criticized each other through the media. On Monday, Donald Trump challenged Andrew Cuomo to be able to organize with other states in the region the conditions for exiting containment, before declaring on Thursday that it was up to the states to position themselves on the subject .

New York State remains the most affected by the virus in the United States, with another 630 deaths in the last 24 hours, down from the peaks recorded several times in recent days. A total of 12,822 people have died from Covid-19 in New York State.

As he has done systematically for several days, the governor explained that he was waiting for the federal government to set up a program of massive deployment of screening tests, which are still very insufficient to consider controlled deconfinement. Donald Trump “has said over and over again: ‘I don’t want to get involved in testing,”‘ said Andrew Cuomo. “It’s too complicated and too difficult. I know. That’s why we need your help.”

The president “means: I’ve done enough,” said the governor. “But none of us have done enough, because it’s not over.”
