New York Gets Ready to Reopen Schools

By Elías Alvarado

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that all schools are authorized to open next month.

Cuomo noted that “we are probably in the best situation in the country right now,” adding: “If someone can open schools, we can open schools.”

The authorities will be monitoring the coronavirus infection rate until the first day of school, but the governor is optimistic because today only 1% of infections are reported and only 5 deaths are registered.

But if the infection rate reaches 9% before the return to school date the plan will be completely canceled.

They seek to install air purification systems in each school, the use of masks will be mandatory and social distancing must be met.

For its part, the state of New Jersey reports only 12 deaths in the last week from coronavirus, today there are 384 positive cases, but fortunately hospitalizations have decreased considerably. But Governor Murphy warned not to let down your guard, that this virus cannot be given an inch of advantage.

Nationally, California continues to be the state with the most positive cases, with more than 541 thousand and Florida continues to occupy the second place with 510 thousand.

Electricity service in many cities has already been restored, but many other households are still waiting for electricity to return.
