New York declares measles outbreak over

New York – After the largest surge in measles in New York in nearly three decades, the US east coast metropolis has declared the outbreak over.

After the declaration of the state of emergency in April, the disease was contained after the deployment of 500 officials, extra vaccinations and educational work, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced yesterday. The city spent six million dollars (5.5 million euros) on it, according to the information.

Among other things, authorities had observed an increase in cases in part of the Brooklyn neighborhood – around three quarters of the 654 diseases occurred in non-vaccinated people. © dpa / aerzteblatt.de
